Eugenie Clark Field Research Skills and Leadership Program
New College of Florida is offering paid training experiences in shark research. Interns will receive mentorship from scientists from New College of Florida, Havenworth Coastal Conservation, Chicago Zoological Society's Sarasota Dolphin Research Program, and Minorities in Shark Sciences and participate in on-vessel field-based research and public outreach work. Participants will receive hands-on experience deploying gear, handling, identifying, tagging, and releasing sharks, rays and bony fish, as well as collecting biological (morphological measurements, blood and tissue samples) and environmental (water quality) data. Additionally, participants will learn to design and deliver public outreach content on the biology, ecology, and conservation concerns of local shark and ray species. Participants may also assist with processing biological samples, maintaining sampling gear and water quality monitoring equipment, and recording, entering, and managing data. Aplications for the program will open in February.
